NOTHING TELLS A STORY LIKE A STORY…

When I was in grade two we had an old Remington typewriter on a shelf in the back of the room. At every opportunity, I found myself in front of that lump of steel, ribbon, and ink. I was asked to write a story about what I wanted to be when I left school. I did not know what a writer was. So I wrote about being a mad scientist. I had seen one in a film. Writers are a bit like mad scientists. Forever curious, neurotic about getting to the truth, and hell-bent on letting everyone know about what they created. It was fate that I write for a living.

I am now a Melbourne-based food writer, author, and events host.

I am well known in the food scene as an independent writer and commentator on food issues and an affable and humorous host and presenter.

I was cast as the acclaimed commentator on the 7 Network series Iron Chef Australia and am a regular contributor to the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age’s Good Food section in which I write the popular and humourous Brain Food column. I write a weekly column in the Saturday Age called Six Reasons to Visit. I have written four cookbooks on Spanish cuisine with Spanish-born chef Frank Camorra. I have written another cookbook on Spanish food and one on Mexican food for publisher Gourmet Pilgrim. I am a frequent contributor to Gourmet Traveller Magazine.

A former comedy writer and TV producer I have found my calling in writing about food, where it comes from, how it is grown and how it enjoyed. I have been employed by top tour company APT to host Captain’s Choice Tours in Europe, am the author of My Year Without Meat, and co-host the comedic food and wine podcast The Hungry Gentlemen with award-winning food writer Max Allen. I am a Mornington Peninsula-born lad growing up on a dairy farm in Shoreham and a proud Red Hill Consolidated School alumunus.
